LHTH 60th: Storyeum (Previously named as Hall History Corner)

Dear Hotungnians, graduates, fellow hallmates and members,

2011 is a year of celebration, for our beloved Lady Ho Tung Hall has now entered her 60th year of glory. Among a series of celebratory events and projects organised by the Students’ Association and the Graduates’ Association, ‘Storyeum’ is a permanent structure to preserve our past glories and romantic university days. We sincerely invite you to participate in this meaningful project by donation.

Since the reconstruction of LHTH we have been trying to pass on our most acclaimed essences into the shiny new building. Nevertheless, the disappearance of the old LHTH building is still lamented for among us, even within younger generations who have never seen the original LHTH. Aiming to preserve our history and our values, ‘Storyeum’- Museum of our never ending stories will be set up to display memorable items, history and stories of LHTH. Located in the common area in 1/F, our 60 years of glory will be easily accessible to all members of the public, and, in particular, our graduates and freshmen.

With the help of enthusiastic graduates, undergraduates and ex-warden Ruffina, our team interviewed senior graduates, collected more than 500 photos and publications from alumni and the University Archive, researched for and spearheaded the formation of an old LHTH model. A year has passed since the humble start of the project and we are progressing fast. Yet it can never be accomplished without your support. We are now calling for donations for the completion of the exhibition area. Our target number of donors is 160 - a number which signifies the concerted efforts of individuals to celebrate the 100th and 60th Anniversaries of our University and Lady Ho Tung Hall respectively.

It is time to demonstrate unity and affection to our beloved LHTH, like we did in our good old university days. Your help brings this project closer to life and will be very much appreciated and valued. Dear graduates,

As we know, our hall was torn down in 1997 so as to meet the increasing demand of accommodations in HKU. Even though a new hall building was erected on the original site in 2001, part of the memory was inevitably, or at least physically, lost. It is a pity if our long history would elapse with time, leaving no trace at all.

LHTH will approach its 60thanniversary in the year 2011. as part of the celebration programme “Yelo My Life!”, a Hall History Corner will be established in the hall building. The Hall History Corner is a permanent exhibition and storage of our history within LHTH. It is not only a chance for us to reminisce about our valuable hall life but can also serve as a showcase for our unique spirit and culture.

The Hall History Corner needs to be built with the collective memories of our alumnae. Therefore, we would like to invite you to donate memorable items, such as publications, team uniforms, welfare products and every little thing, however insignificant that might seem, that can remind us our times of laughter, tears, and most importantly, friendship and growth. The items can be donated permanently to Lady Ho Tung Hall Graduates’ Association, or lent to us for temporary display at the opening exhibition of the Hall History Corner in March 2011. Also, we welcome your photos or video clips for us to digitalise. They can be returned after use.

Every piece of your treasure enables us to demonstrate a more thorough picture of our hall. If you are interested, please kindly reply this email with the signed agreement slip. We highly appreciate graduates to take the items to hall for better collection and storage. However, if it is not at your convenience, we are happy to discuss with you on the collection method.
